So. I borrowed a Diana from Amanda, Katrina gave me a Holga and I stole Sean's Polaroid for a few shots.

Solangel by Holga:

Diana:

Polaroid:

If only film and processing wasn't so expensiiiiive. But it's so worth it to have the unpredictability, the delayed gratification and the ART.

Also, I would have shoved Sean's Polaroid down my pants and run off with it if I thought I could have gotten away with it. The sound it makes, the film popping out into your hands, watching it develop... that's as close as we get to magic.

Love,
Beth

i love polaroids too. i wish i'd bought more film when i had the chance but i'm sure now everyone's increasing their prices like crazy

Total photo nazi thing but-- it's not analog, it's chemical. There is equal mechanical process in chemical and digital photo.

Okay that's all. Love the photos. :P

wonder what the cost tradeoffs are in setting up a darkroom to do processing of chemical film?

It is magic.
Wishing you a happy Easter.

Oh film, how I do not miss paying for you. Or sitting there with cut rolls of you and my horrible notes about each shot trying to learn how to make a good clean shot. Or having the developer say "We hate to charge you for this but the whole roll is ..." Totally FUBR in one way or another.

But I miss the magic. I miss the happy mistakes. I miss the sitting and thinking about a shot for 5 FULL minutes before clicking the shutter. I miss having the dark room all to myself and creating the images with my hands. Magic to watch the image come out of the paper in the developing fluid.

Btw, I like the polaroids! Very retro cool.

beautiful! these cameras are so much fun to play with. <3

See, I look at Polaroids and think... the possibilities of being able to WRITE under photo immediately after taking it...

you can have the delayed gratification by taping over the lcd on your digicam. or get hardcore and break it.

Inventive

These are the comments that I love you for!

But that involves some self-control and will power that developing film well, doesn't give you the option to lose ;)

I actually have a polaroid that's yours if you want it. It's in a leather carrying case and everything. It needs film and batteries though. I'm much more of a digital person (unless it's moving images, then film forever).

I love polaroids too. It was always my favorite way to take photos at a party. It was fun and spontaneous just like the people at the parties. :-D

This makes me really want to actually use my Diana. I still think it might be broken though. We shall see.

I hate how expensive it is to get film processed. I got a roll of slide film and two rolls of 120 film developed and it was something like $40. D: I was sad.

Its just getting bright enough to use the Holga again! I'm so looking forward to the next few months!!

Also film processing yourself is pretty simple - its the same process practically for colour and b&w, just need to keep the colour chems at roughly the same temp!

I'm addicted to film photography. I like digital well enough but there's something irreplaceably engaging about the ritual of loading film into a camera and taking your shots without any knowledge of how well they will (or won't) turn out. It forces you to trust your skill and talent, and to be careful in your work.

I adore it unendingly. :) I would like to learn to develop my own. This will require space for a darkroom, of course, which is scarce atm, but someday.
